Blended approach

Our tutoring approach is varied and dynamic.  We provide one to one sessions, group sessions as well as workshops over the school holidays and during school term.  The lessons  are interactive,  specific and directly linked to the current KS2 National Curriculum.

We provide focused lessons for grammar, vocabulary and descriptive writing: these are designed to consolidate learning nearer to the 11 plus exam.  Special care is taken to get your learning plan right so that no time is wasted.

We use a multifaceted approach to ensure a good fit between the child and the task at hand.  There are no booklets or workbooks for pupils to work through serially so that each child's learning plan is based on their current attainment level.  Our blueprint is the National Curriculum and each child’s learning style and ability helps to chart the path for their development.

For English, we ascertain vocabulary range and domain knowledge which is crucial for cloze passages.  We then establish a plan to ensure that the student is secure in critical analysis required for effective reading and comprehension.  This includes skills to differentiate facts from opinion, determine the correct sequence of events as well as cause/effects and literary devices.  With knowledge of Children and the learning process, we empower the most reluctant writer to share their dreams and experiences in the written form.

Our approach to teaching mathematics is dynamic: it appeals to both the visual and verbal learner.  Some areas of the Curriculum are better explored with manipulatives and visual aids.  We not only ensure the student understands the core of the Curriculum, we also teach its practical application as it applies to the entrance exam. Mastery of Fractions, Decimals and Percentages is central to our Algebra lessons.

MOCK RESULTS

Year 5 is a crucial milestone in the 11 plus journey.  Essentially, this is not the time for one size fits all.  The eleven plus is undoubtedly a competitive exam, so insight into the competition could make a significant difference if you have taken the DIY route up to this point or your child has been tutored in a large group or perhaps your child has not been tutored at all.

Has your child just received  their mock result? Do you feel the need to review your strategy? Our focused 11 plus course structure for year 5 students (max of 3) has the potential to address identified gaps in knowledge and application: Grammar(clauses and phrases), Vocabulary range development,Creative writing, Reading and Comprehension techniques.  Students are assessed to ensure they meet the requirements for this course.

Each student's homework depends on their individual level of attainment.  Perhaps, your child is not doing as well as expected despite having covered the KS2 Maths curriculum. It is time to change approach and harness the potential you have nurtured over the years. We are equipped to coach students to develop mental agility, speed of execution and choosing the right approach to each question. Visual learners are given specific support with word problems in mathematics.
